EVENT MANAGEMENT (2015)

Embrace Events present Murder On Bennett's Hill at the Secret Bar Behind the Bookcase

As part of the Event Management project, I worked in a team of eight to put on a charitable event. The design and concept was based on a 1920's themed murder mystery. The team was split into specific roles with group meetings to discuss design, pr, marketing, social media, finance, venue, sponsorship and fundraising. The charities chosen were Graduate Fashion Week and Birmingham Women's Hospital Tiny Babies Big Appeal. The first helps fashion graduates and the latter helps care for premature and sick babies by supporting families and purchasing more equipment.

There was no budget offered as part of the module so all the money for the event was fundraised by the events group itself through cake sales, pop up jewellery sales and even a Valentines Day pop up. The event was set for February at a sophisticated location in Birmingham City Centre, The Lost and Found.

The event was publicised through social media with regular Facebook and Instagram updates as well as a PR stunt in fancy dress to hand out flyers and teaser trailers available on YouTube. Sponsorship was secured through Twitter connections with prizes for the raffle including shopping vouchers, a Gastro Card and tickets for the CBSO. The event was featured on two radio stations, Big City Radio and a full interview with Event Director, Tiffany Vanbeek on Free Radio. The event was a great

success engaging the guests in the murder mystery show and with positive reviews afterwards. The group managed to raise over £2000 altogether and gained a first class mark for this collaborative project.
